Vittorio Sgarbi and Giulio Tremonti at the Hotel Bernini Palace
Vittorio Sgarbi and Giulio Tremonti together with Selin Sanli and Leonardo Tozzi present RINASCIMENTO – con la cultura (non) si mangia: a book, a manifesto, and a proposal.
“We are experiencing a cultural neo-Middle Ages, and we need to start believing in beauty again.” “As in the Middle Ages, traditions and superstitions created an almost impenetrable web of constraints and inhibitions, so today new superstitions—an artificial product of modern, hyper-technological and postmodern civilization—descend upon reality in the form of an equally dense web of new, endless rules and unnecessary, overlapping forms of servitude, of artificial and forced ideological, political and cultural conventions, all of which are capable of preventing the full realization of the human spirit and of civil coexistence. One can free oneself from these constraints, but only by starting from a new Renaissance, so that, as in the past, politics and art may once again become a struggle for freedom against tyranny, but also an antithesis and a revolution as construction of the future...” With these words opens an original cultural and political manifesto written jointly by two authors, destined to spark debate: from a new idea of Europe to the issue of migrants, from ius soli to the recovery and enhancement of artistic heritage as a virtuous response born from the earthquake of a year ago. A cultured and brilliant dialogue moving between economics and art, philosophy and current affairs, and at the same time a book full of concrete solutions so that Italy may once again spread, with Dante, “its wings for the mad flight.”
